THE FIELD GUIDE

A booking isn’t a technician at the door.

Lead capture, calendar booking, and dispatch solve different parts of the job. Here is how to tell them apart.

AWETONOMOUS EDITORIAL · PUBLISHED November 3, 2026 · REVIEWED November 3, 2026 · SOURCE REVIEW / ORIGINAL ANALYSIS

Three finish lines, three amounts of remaining work

Lead capture records a request. Your team still has to establish the details and arrange the work. Appointment booking reserves time under a set of rules. Dispatch assigns someone who can actually do the job.

These distinctions are our editorial framework for comparing providers. They are not ratings of a product's performance.

A calendar entry can leave a lot unresolved

A service visit may depend on skills, equipment, travel, duration, territory, and access. For a cleaning business, consider crew size and the length of a visit. For a trade business, the technician or equipment needed may change with the type of job.

Ask what the system checks before it confirms a time, and which decisions a person still has to make. A tool can be useful even when it completes only one part, as long as that boundary is clear.

Read the integration claim carefully

Jobber's documentation says Receptionist uses Online Booking settings to determine bookable services and team availability. Goodcall's walkthrough describes adding appointments to Google Calendar or connecting through a booking system's API. These are different integration routes; neither description alone proves every dispatch rule in your business is handled.

Request a record you can inspect

  1. Start with an unavailable time and a real service category.
  2. Follow the request into the final calendar or job record.
  3. Check whether a time, a person, or both were assigned.
  4. Check who receives any unresolved task.
  5. Try a reschedule and inspect the original appointment.

Compare providers by the remaining steps as well as the steps they complete. Keep the human handoff explicit.
